DCCC Alms raised $1200 through hosting a Hawaiian-themed lunch held on August 11, 2024, in the Fellowship Hall. Church members contributed various dishes, appetizers, and desserts. No one walked away hungry! Church goers donated $20 per person to enjoy this fabulous lunch. All monies raised help to support this year's projects benefitting seniors, families, and various worthwhile community charitable endeavors. The Alms project is led by DCCC Board member Cathy Riley and DCCC member and Sunday School Leader Pam Bugbee.

   Pictured above are Chuck and Betty Christine Brechler in the Fellowship Hall at Duck Creek Community Church (DCCC) in Duck Creek Village, Utah. There will be a funeral service for Betty on October 4th at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Boulder.  The church address  is 1401 5th Street, Boulder, NV 89005. Friends are welcome to attend.

   The photo above was taken at a special Valentine's luncheon held at the church in 2020.  Chuck and Betty were steadfast servants of our Lord and Savior. They were DCCC founding members and helped to build the church, to which they gave countless hours of loving leadership, service, and labor. Chuck led many construction and improvement projects at the church. He led the Call to Worship on Sundays while Betty led the Opening Prayer at Sunday Services for years, along with regularly attending Women's Bible Study and the local Sewing Group that still meets Tuesdays at the church. They were beloved members of the church and the Duck Creek Village community.

   Betty Christine Brechler is with her beloved Chuck in heaven. She passed to her reward at 6 p.m. on September  12, 2024, in Boulder City, NV. She slipped away quietly, holding her son Bert's hand.

   Betty was  born Betty Christine Hanson to Bert and Christine Hanson  on December 2, 1934, at St Mary's in Madison, Wisconsin.

    She and her sisters, Linda and Marianne, grew up in Klevenville, near Blue Mounds, Wisconsin.  In high school, she  enjoyed playing flute, where she met the bassoon player, Pete (Chuck) Brechler.  She graduated Salutatorian. After graduation, she played in the Madison Symphony.

   After high school, she worked at General Casualty in Madison. She could  be seen driving her yellow 1952 convertible to work. She really liked that car! She married Chuck at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mount Horeb on June 22, 1957.

   They moved to the desert on advice from the Mayo Clinic. (She suffered from Rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 22). That is how they ended up in Las  Vegas.

    She raised her 2 boys, Carl and Bert. When the boys were old enough, she  went back  to school, obtained a degree in education from UNLV. Eventually  achieving her Masters in Education. She was a well regarded math teacher, and was chair of the math department at her school.

    She retired from the Clark County School District and went to work doing the books for Brechler and Bell Consulting Engineers. After a few years, they moved up to Panaca, where Chuck helped them improve the county management. After that, they retired to Duck Creek  Village, Utah.

   Betty was a bright inspirational person, never complaining about her daily pain and disabilities. She knitted weekly with the sewing group, never letting blindness stop her from leading a cheerful Spirit-filled life. Betty had an indomitable will and a kind, compassionate heart. She never gossiped, tried to see the best in others and always had a smile for her friends.

   She is survived by her son, Bert, daughter-in-law, Anita, sisters Linda and Marianne. She was a wonderful grandmother to surviving grandsons Gary, Craig, Michael Sanders, Quinton Giles, and granddaughter, Lauren Giles. Her husband, Chuck, and son, Carl, preceded her in death

  "A light has  gone out, but we shall have the wonderful memory of how brightly it shone, and the warmth it gave," wrote Bert at the end of Betty's obituary.
